How long were you with SEG?

I was with SEG for just under a quarter.

What are you doing now?

I’m a pharmaceutical sales rep.

What was your background before starting with SEG (i.e. – graduate or working for another company)?

I graduated and I knew I wanted to go into pharmaceutical sales, but I studied communications and marketing, so I didn’t have any sales experience. I applied with a pharmaceutical company anyway because I knew I still had something to offer. The manager that I interviewed with turned me down the first time because I needed to gain sales experience – whether outside or inside sales. So, I took a step back and realized I needed to lower my expectations. I said, Ok I’ll do an inside sales role – like cold calling – because I think that builds a lot of the grit to be able to do what I do now. So, I went on Glassdoor, I found SEG, interviewed, and got the job. I worked for my client at SEG for two months, they hired me on, and I was there for six months. Even though it was bittersweet, I decided to take the next step in my career and move into a pharmaceutical sales role after those 8 months of experience.

What impressed you most about SEG’s program (i.e. – the people, training, management, your client)?

The way they explain themselves. They are honest about the fact that you will be on the phones, you will be learning CRM, etc. From a sales training perspective, they do a good job of teaching you strategic outreach and how to accept rejection and not take it personally. I think the most helpful thing that I got from the job was knowing CRM. CRM is in any sales job so having that as something they worked on was really helpful. It just made my transition easier.

Talk about the community that you built with your teammates and other teams on the floor.

I was really close with and I still talk to some of the people that were there. It’s a place for young people who want an energized office but want to feel motivated. I remember every time someone would get a meeting everyone was happy for each other. We hung out outside of work, we celebrated when someone did really well one month. It’s a fun culture that also motivates you.

How did SEG’s program help you with your current position?

SEG was literally the foundation. When I went into the second round of interviews with my current company, they saw the way I spoke about sales. They saw my experience. The confidence that SEG gives you as a salesperson really helps you come off as being ready to take on the role. They really did help me be confident to know that I could get the job.

Please tell me the number one story that sticks in your head from your time at SEG.

It would be the support that I got during those two months. The people are very invested in you. If they know that you’re there to be successful, they will help you get there. Whether that’s picking the client or helping you to get hired on, the team fully supports you.
